Your Brain on AI — What MIT Found Is Not Laziness
Duration 9:45
A visual breakdown of the 2025 MIT Media Lab EEG study on writing with ChatGPT — how brain connectivity was measured, and what happened when habitual ChatGPT users had to write without it.
About this film
This film is the visual companion to our written story. It follows the 2025 MIT Media Lab study led by Nataliya Kosmyna and Pattie Maes, in which participants wrote essays using only their own minds, a search engine, or ChatGPT while EEG electrodes recorded how strongly different brain regions were connected.
It covers how the study measured connectivity, what changed in the session where habitual ChatGPT users had to write without the tool, and why the researchers frame the result as cognitive debt rather than laziness.
The study is a single preprint with a modest sample, so the film — like the story — treats it as evidence, not a verdict.
